my inner goddess

You Are Aphrodite!
A total shining star with a ton of admirers
And no wonder: you live life to the fullest!
When things get bad, you can easily take off to a happier place
But occasionally, you need to deal with problems head on

writing guidelines

You should try to take note of the following if you aim to write more sensible blogs (hence, make it an interesting read). Just a thought.

1. Pile on lots of subtlety.

2. Colloquialism is just for barmpots.

3. Intimidatory writing is just for wimps.

4. You speaking ghetto? Sorry, but I don't speak the language of the street.

5. Honey, don't swear. It does not suffice for your lack of class. (grins)

"Isn't life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?"

- Andy Warhol

What age do you act?

You Act Like You Are 21 Years Old
You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel like an adult, and you're optimistic about life.
You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

You're still figuring out your place in the world and how you want your life to shape up.
The world is full of possibilities, and you can't wait to explore many of them.

Interesting! And to those of you who aren't aware yet, I am 21 years old. :)

summer solstice

Longer days and shorter nights. It was evident today.. The annoying alarm clock did not wake me somehow, I still wanted to go back to sleep, even if it meant i'd be late for work.

But the sun's rays was beckoning me to get out of bed and start the day. Somehow, it was a promise of a great day ahead. And although it was a Friday (yes, weekends always excite me!), I had illusory dreams of me with a nice piña colada in hand, in my skimpy swimming attire, trying to fight off the burning summer heat with the soothing cool waters.

This past weekend, I had a nice get-together with a few friends. It was both a welcome treat but also a painful reminder.

A treat, because we were able to enjoy the season and have a few good laughs. But it was painful to think that it will only last for as long as we are together. And when we have to part ways, we had to go back to the boring routine of our everyday lives. But it was glad to have that escape..not everyone gets the chance.

That's why I try to keep away from the computer for the weekends. I needed it to revive my sanity. Getting a job should not always entail a non-existent social life. After all, we all work our asses off to enjoy what we have.

So, there goes, we laughed like crazy. It's one of the few "free" things in this capitalist world.

The alarm goes off again, and the sun's rays has lost its romantic appeal. The world seems to stop at this time of day. But I had to get up, I still have loads of work waiting for me at the office.

funny advertising lingo

Sounds familiar? Oh yes, we've heard this way too often.

  • NEW! — Different color from previous design.
  • ALL NEW! — Parts are not interchangeable with previous design.
  • EXCLUSIVE! — Imported product.
  • UNMATCHED! — Almost as good as the competition.
  • FOOLPROOF OPERATION! — No provision for adjustments.
  • ADVANCED DESIGN! — The advertising agency doesn't understand it.
  • IT'S HERE AT LAST! — Rush job. Nobody knew it was coming.
  • FIELD TESTED! — Manufacturer lacks test equipment.
  • HIGH ACCURACY! — Unit on which all parts fit.
  • FUTURISTIC! — No other reason why it looks the way it does.
  • REDESIGNED! — Previous flaws fixed — we hope.
  • DIRECT SALES ONLY! — Factory had a big argument with distributor.
  • YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT! — We finally got one to work.
  • BREAKTHROUGH! — We finally figured out a use for it.
  • MAINTENANCE FREE! — Impossible to fix.
  • MEETS ALL STANDARDS! — Ours, not yours.
  • SOLID-STATE! — Weighs more than your car.
  • HIGH RELIABILITY! — We made it work long enough to ship it.

Practicing optimism

We all have those days wherein things aren't just going the way we want it to. Or, when so much negativity is messing up your mind, and eventually, how you see things in general. Don't fret. It's not the end of the world for you. There are ways to overcome what you believe to be the worst feeling there is. And the good thing is, most of it just takes place inside your brain.

So, you might want to consider a few things to get your life back on track. And before you know it, you might start to drink life as it comes and possibly start to see the glass as half-full, instead of half-empty.

1. Let go of the assumption that the world is against you, or that you were born with a gray cloud over your head. Be humble and stop pretending you've got the world all figured out. Sometimes bad experiences lead to good experiences, and you can't predict the future, so you can't assume it'll always be bad.

2. Look for the source of your pessimism. A day or week that starts badly will not necessarily end badly. Do not make a bad start turn into a self fulfilling prophecy for a bad ending.

3. See yourself as a cause, not an effect. You don't have to be a product or a victim of your circumstances. Stop thinking about what is happening to you and start thinking about what you can make happen.

4. Be Thankful. Everyone has something to be grateful for. The key to being an optimist is recognizing the benefits and possibilities of any situation, and understanding that it could always be worse.

5. Remember that life is short. At its core, pessimism is impractical because it causes you to spend time dwelling on things that haven't happened yet and aren't guaranteed to happen, and it prevents you from getting things done. Pessimism breeds indecision.

More tips:

  • Avoid negative people. If you can't avoid them, learn how to not let them get you down.
  • Don't let your negative feelings control you.
  • Don't confuse pessimism with depression. Depression can make everything look worse than it is.
  • You can only change you. You can't change other people.
  • While it is true that you create your own circumstances, accept that the past is the past. Don't let negative circumstances trigger irrational guilt.
  • The past is the past. It's over. It's done. Let it go.
  • Realize that it's not about what happens to you, it's about how you react to what happens.
